Review: Jon Creeden and the Flying Hellfish/ Cory Levesque and Friends.

This split is just perfect, you may know those names from their own acoustic projects, however, these songs are loud, and they're good. Jon Creeden's tunes are titled well, like a live Cory Levesque show. These songs are about 558 Scumhouse, Robot! House!!(RIP) and everyone's favorite mustached man, JS. For anyone who hasn't been to either of those places, or doesn't know JS, well, relive (new) memories with these tunes.
Cory's songs are full of feels and may leave one teary eyed if they strike close to home. What a Mess has always been a favorite of mine, and being able to hear it will this much more energy just brings a huge smile to my face.
You may hear/ purchase this split here: corylevesque.com  I guarantee you will be singing along after half a listen, if you aren't well, that's cool. Cory is such a stand up dude, all profits from his bandcamp go directly to support Ottawa Rock Camp 4 Girls.

Jon Creeden is constantly on the road, check tour dates here:  https://www.facebook.com/joncreedenmusic

Review: OldFriends- it's not working out.

so- before clicking play- i was biaseed to like this album, based on the fact that it's coming out on it's alive!. The opening song starts with a 90s throwback! (the intro to rugrats! fucking cool- Nickelodeon- if you sue them- i will hate you.). it was after those first 5 seconds that i knew i was in for a killer EP. Surface is great- just on that intro. Midlife Crisis(at 21) made me wanna break stuff in my room at my parents house (yes- i still live there at 26- but free rent is sweet - until you bring a girl home and she has to be very quiet.) "the drunkest i've ever been" is something everyone can relate too at some point in their life- or...every weekend (fuck i hate hangovers....). This ep as a whole is pretty fucking killer. check it out for yourself- and don't do what i do and beg the band for mp3s- buy the damn thing. listen here!

Operation:3-Way!

This gem was put on on Goblin Records (now defunct label that was ran by The Riptides).  Since is it a 3 way split,  I couldn't really post it to one specific band (duh!).  No worry's  more stuff from 2 of these bands is coming!

The Muggins

The Muggins were around in the early 2000s.  Played a bunch of shows with the creeps, and even share riffs of a few songs with them.  If i had to compare them to anyone you might know,  i'd go with The Nobodys.

Muggins are:

Tyler King

Steve Adymyk

Matt Selic

Ian Skoczylas

Finderskeepers Double Review!!! it's like a double rainbow...but with reviews?

Like the title says:  double review.  First:  7" review.  Second: Release show review.

I asked my buddy Turtle (PunkRockReview) to review this,  seeing as he does not write reviews anymore,  and they usually turn out pretty funny whether they are good or not.  Here's what he has to say:

I've been out of the review game for a while, but when my old friend Franky asked me to pitch in and review his friends band for old times sake I couldn't turn him down. I asked "What if their terrible, you've been listening to some pussy music lately. He replied that they were straight forward punk non-pussy shit" & "When has Ottawa let you down." He was right about one thing Ottawa seldomly has let me down. The Creeps, Riptides, Visitors, etc... are Ottawa area bands I love. Sadly Finderskeepers has proven Franky to not only have a bad taste in music, but also has made me mistrust the Ottawa punk scenes future. I had jokingly ask Franky if the song "Red Riding" was about period sex, prior to listening to Finderskeepers and to be honest heavy flow period sex sounds better than listening to this sludge. The recording sounds like it was done from a DIY Pringles can microphone, the vocals are unrecognizable and overall the music sounds like an unfinished generic garage band practice session. Normally I really dislike instrumentals, but in this case "Red Riding" aka the Period Sex song (instrumental) was the best part of the demo. Only because I didn't have to hear the distorted drowned out vocals anymore. Don't waste you time listening to this.

While this does not represent my personal opinion,  it's worth a read anyways.

And last night ( feb 28th 2014...in case you somehow read this in 10 years...)  was the EP release show.

First up:  NECK : straight forward 1-2-3-4 pop-punk.  short and sweet set, leaves you wanting more every time.

Second:  RAWRAWRIOT:  All girl punk band, aside from being pretty ladies (really? i'm saying they are pretty why? well, they are) are really talented and extremely catchy.   The guitarist from the band comes from my hometown,  so that's a bonus,  check them out if you can.

Third:  Finderskeepers: my memory is a big hazy on this one,  too many beers were in me by this point.  Fuck it.  Keep an eye on Ottawa Showbox  they will have a whole let better review of this show soon.

I'm going back too bed.  too many post show cheeseburgers.
